A plug is a sticky rubber strip pushed into the puncture from the outside of the tire. It's fast and cheap, and roadside emergency kits use it. Patches

Done right, a plug-patch repair can last the rest of the tire's life.

When a Tire Can't Be Repaired

We'd love to fix every tire that comes through the door, but some damage isn't safe to patch. Industry guidelines and our own standards rule out tire repair when:

  • The puncture is in the sidewall or shoulder (the curved area near the edge of the tread)
  • The hole is larger than 1/4 inch in diameter
  • Two punctures are closer than 16 inches apart
  • The tire has been driven flat, and the inner liner is damaged
  • The tread is already worn to 2/32" or below
  • There's a bulge, cord separation, or previous improper repair
